Modern dental ceramics are engineered for demanding conditions, but no dental restoration should be subjected to unnecessary or abnormal forces.

DON'T USE YOUR TEETH AS TOOLS

Avoid using your crown to:

  • Open packets

  • Bite bottle caps

  • Cut thread

  • Bite fingernails

  • Break hard objects

  • Crack very hard shells

BE CAREFUL WITH EXTREMELY HARD FOODS

Try to avoid excessive force when consuming:

  • Ice

  • Extremely hard candy

  • Unpopped popcorn kernels

  • Very hard nuts or shells

WHAT ABOUT STICKY FOODS?

Very sticky foods (especially chewing gums) can place additional pulling forces on restorations.

If your dentist has given you specific dietary instructions, follow those instructions.

THE GOLDEN RULE

Use your teeth for eating—not as tools.

Your crown is designed for normal function, not unnecessary stress.
